Wine Open this Friday & Saturday... it's a Bordeaux

It's the weekend again so time to come down to Banchory's independent wine, beer, whisky, gin, rum and cigar shop.

For both the 14th and 15th of February we are open 10 am till 8 pm and will have a tasty Bordeaux open for tasting.

2017 La Réserve de Lucien Lurton Red, Lucien Lurton

Tasting Notes

Deep purple in colour with an expressive nose. Medium-bodied, rounded tannins, packed with red fruits and a touch of spice on the palate. A complex wine with a long finish.

Food Matching

A great accompaniment to sticky grilled duck breast or slow-cooked pork.

Vineyard

Double guyot trained vines on clay-limestone soils. Machine harvested grapes from old vines. Traditional methods of viticulture

Vinification

Maturing in cement and stainless steel temperature-controlled vats for 45 days. Made at relatively cool temperatures in order to retain as much pure fruit as possible. Fined with egg whites and filtered.

Wine Open for Tasting This Weekend

Wine Open for Tasting This Weekend

At the Strong Water Co, we are firm believers in trying some great products before buying. Each weekend we'll have different wines, gins, or even whisky and rum open for tasting.

This weekend the 7th and 8th of February we've got open;

2018 Paranga White, Ktima Kir-Yianni

Tasting Note:

Intense but refined aromas of jasmine, white peach, and apricot, typical of a high-quality Malagousia, are pleasantly balanced by the freshness of a mountainous Roditis adding a crispy acidity and zest to the final blend. The lingering fruity aftertaste underpins the intense flavor and highlights a wine with an enchanting character.

Food Matching:

It can be enjoyed all year round, on its own as an aperitif, or paired to salads, fresh cheese, and fish.

The blurb:

Vineyard: Paranga, a.k.a. "The Shack" in Greek, takes its name from the state of the Kir-Yianni winery in Amyndeon, back in 1997 when Yiannis Boutaris bought it. The grapes are sourced primarily from contracted growers in the Amyndeon appellation in Northwestern Greece. The vineyards are sprawling at an altitude of 600m on poor sandy soils. The area is marked by cold winters and warm summers, but the four surrounding lakes create a unique mild mesoclimate. As a result, we get high fruit concentration and ripeness with exquisitely complex and rich aromas.

Come down and visit us at 78 High Street Banchory - with a wide choice of beers, wines, whisky, rums, gin and lots more! Open Saturday's 10am till 8pm.

Meet Our First Brews - Banchory's Beer Shop

We’re bursting with beer on the shelves at The Strong Water Co Banchory store – with a range of Scottish beers such as the intense toasted cacao & coffee stout Chokka Blokka from Williams Bros Brewing – the brewery behind Birds & Bees – to a Cloud Falls clean pine and grapefruit IPA balanced with a soft mouthfeel from 71 Brewing, as well as the innovative Pilot Brewing’s Peach Melba Sour, an approachable sour inspired by peach, raspberry, and vanilla.

Not to worry, though, we have ventured further afield too with beers coming in from across Europe, the UK and the Rest of the World. Come and try Yeastie Boys’ Early Grey IPA all the way from New Zealand, or keep close to home with Turning Point’s Rainbow Road Comet hopped IPA – maybe even visit Germany, trying the Früh Köclsch appellation (only one of 20 beers in the world allowed to carry the name).

For cider drinkers, we have a huge range like Wild Elder, Vintage Perry, Hip Hop & Dry Cider all ready and waiting to surprise you. Whether you want to expand beyond your beer horizons or stick to reliable tasty flavours you know well, you will find something you love on our shelves. Even better than that, we are here in store ready to help you with our personalised, traditional high street customer service.
