campogiovanni-rosso-di-montalcino-doc
Campogiovanni, Rosso di Montalcino DOC

Campogiovanni Rosso di Montalcino 2024

A beautifully approachable Sangiovese from Montalcino – ripe cherry, plum and blackberry with savoury spice, fine tannins and that unmistakable Tuscan freshness.

Made at Tenuta Campogiovanni on the southern slopes of Montalcino, this is a brilliant introduction to one of Tuscany's most famous wine regions. Think of Rosso di Montalcino as the younger, fresher and more immediately approachable sibling to Brunello – still unmistakably Montalcino, but without needing years in the cellar before you can get stuck in.

The wine is made from 100% Sangiovese, sourced from a six-hectare vineyard planted in the 1990s at around 250–300 metres above sea level. The naturally brighter style of fruit from this site makes it particularly well suited to Rosso di Montalcino.

After fermentation, the wine spends 12 months maturing in traditional Slavonian oak botti, followed by additional time in bottle before release.

The result is wonderfully inviting: ripe cherry, blackberry and plum are joined by cedar, spice and more savoury notes. Fresh acidity keeps the ripe fruit in check, while fine tannins give it enough structure without making it overly serious.

Why We Like It

This is exactly what good Rosso di Montalcino should be – all the character of proper Tuscan Sangiovese but in a fresher, more approachable style.

If you love Chianti Classico, Brunello di Montalcino or good Italian reds in general, this is well worth a bottle. There's enough complexity to make it interesting, but you don't need to overthink it. Open it, give it a decent glass and get some Italian food on the table.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Ripe cherry and blackberry with cedarwood, dried herbs and warming spice.

Palate: Juicy plum, cherry and red berry fruit with fresh acidity, savoury spice and fine, polished tannins.

Finish: Elegant and persistent with lingering red fruit, spice and a classic savoury Tuscan character.

Food Pairing

A proper food wine. Brilliant with pasta and rich meat sauces, wild mushroom or truffle dishes, roast pork and veal. We'd also happily put this alongside a good pizza, charcuterie or a big bowl of pappardelle.

Product Details

Producer: Tenuta Campogiovanni

Wine: Campogiovanni Rosso di Montalcino

Vintage: 2024

Country: Italy

Region: Tuscany

Appellation: Rosso di Montalcino DOC

Grape: 100% Sangiovese

ABV: 13.5%

Bottle Size: 75cl

Closure: Cork

Winemaker: Leonardo Bellaccini

Buy Campogiovanni Rosso di Montalcino

Buy Campogiovanni Rosso di Montalcino 2024 online from The Strong Water Co., independent wine merchants in Royal Deeside.
