Kottabos Chenin Blanc, Boschkloof
South Africa – 2018
Tasting Note: Firm, stony Chenin Blanc with a fine line of flint, a sliver of granite and beguiling peach flavours rounding things out.
Food Matching: Southeast Asian cuisine or pork chops with apples
Vineyard: Kottabos is a range where all the grapes are sourced from the Polkadraai slopes in Stellenbosch. The area is full of granite and ferricrete soils and is situated close to the ocean of False Bay. This Chenin blanc was sourced from two vineyards both over 30 years of age and grown on beautiful granite soils.
Vinification: Wine was vinified very hands-off to ensure it shows the saline/minerality of the granite soils. Naturally fermented in old oak and aged on thick lees for 10 months before being racked for first time.
