Single Block L5 Sauvignon Blanc, Yealands
New Zealand – 2019
Tasting Note: Sauvignon Blanc from the estate's coolest, most extreme site, restrained, elegant and tasting of crushed oyster shell and wet stone, with a fresh blast of citrus and a pervasive scent of wild thyme.
Food Matching: Great match with all seafood and fish.
Vineyard: The vineyard is the Seaview Vineyard in the Awatere Valley, Marlborough. The soil is wind-blown loess with an elevation of 69m above sea level. Aspect is North facing next to the coast and the distance from the Ocean 900m.The L5 Block is situated in a very exposed area right on the coastline of our Seaview Vineyard. It is the coolest, most extreme site on the vineyard and the subsequent wine reflects this terrior - mineral, salty, crushed oyster shell and wet stone are just a few of the flavours that characterise this unique wine.
Vinification: Extremely clean, ripe fruit picked from our L5 Bock was de-stemmed, chilled and gently pressed off to settle in small stainless steel tanks for three days. The clear juice was racked off and warmed before beig inoculated with selcted yeasts. A long, cool fermentation took place over 20 days. Once fermentation was complete, the wine stayed on lees for seven weeks, with weekly stirring. The wine was then stabilised and filtered before bottling.
