Château Fabre Gasparets Corbières-Boutenac Organic 2022

A cracking organic red from one of the Languedoc's finest crus – packed with dark fruit, spice and proper southern French character.

Château Fabre Gasparets comes from Corbières-Boutenac, one of the most highly regarded areas of the Languedoc. The Fabre family have been making wine for generations, with their history stretching all the way back to 1605. They settled at Gasparets in 1711 and today continue to produce wines from this beautiful corner of southern France.

This organic red is a blend of Mourvèdre, Carignan and Syrah, with fruit harvested by hand from low-yielding vineyards surrounded by the pine forests and wild scrubland of the Corbières.

It's rich and powerful without becoming heavy. Expect plenty of ripe cherry, blackberry and dark fruit, followed by exotic spice, liquorice and a lovely touch of eucalyptus. There's plenty of structure, but the tannins are fine and powdery, giving the wine a surprisingly fresh and lifted finish.

This is exactly the sort of southern French red we love at The Strong Water Co. – loads of flavour, plenty of character and a real sense of where it comes from.

If you enjoy Rhône reds, Châteauneuf-du-Pape or big Mediterranean-style wines but fancy trying something a little different, Corbières-Boutenac is well worth exploring. There's plenty of dark fruit and spice here, but also enough freshness to keep you coming back for another glass.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Ripe cherry, blackberry and dark plum with liquorice, Mediterranean herbs and exotic spice.

Palate: Full and generous with concentrated black fruit, spice and a subtle eucalyptus freshness. Fine, powdery tannins provide plenty of structure without overwhelming the fruit.

Finish: Long, savoury and lifted with lingering dark fruit, herbs and spice.

Food Pairing

This wants food. Pair it with a rare steak, roast lamb, slow-cooked beef, sausages or a proper cassoulet. It would also be excellent alongside a good cheeseboard.
