Tasting Notes

Bright yellow with hints of green. The aromatic nose displays notes of weathered red slate and rich, dense aromas. A wonderful example of Riesling showing excellent concentration, crystalline purity of fruit, and rich flavours.

Food Matching: Great accompaniment to fish, shellfish, or poultry dishes.

Bottle Information

Vineyard: The estate has a total vineyard holding of 18 ha, in vineyards around the villages of Laubenheim and Langenlonsheim. The 35+ year old vines face South and are planted at 160m above sea level at a density of 6,000 per hectare with yields of around 55hl/ha. The soils range from weathered red sandstone to volcanic rock to clay and loess. This wonderfully fertile region is ideal for growing expressive Riesling. Tesch uses only natural methods of controlling pests and disease.

Vinification: The grapes are sorted manually, destemmed and they remain in contact with the skins for 4-8 hours before pressing. Fermentation takes place using wild and cultured yeast in stainless steel tanks at a temperature of 12-15°C and lasts for 40 days. The wine remains on its lees for 6-12 weeks with regular battonage. In common with all Tesch wines, this wine is not aged in oak. Martin Tesch, a great rock music fan, believes that Riesling needs no amplification; therefore, he describes this as Riesling 'Unplugged'. The wine is filtered before bottling.
