A powerful and richly sherried expression of Aberfeldy, independently bottled by Signatory Vintage as part of their highly regarded Cask Strength Collection. Distilled on 2 June 2014 and matured for 12 years in a first-fill Oloroso Sherry Butt, this single-cask release was bottled at a natural cask strength of 59.2% ABV, with just 649 bottles produced.

Aberfeldy is known for its naturally rich and honeyed Highland character, and the influence of the first-fill Oloroso cask brings considerably more depth and intensity to the spirit. Rather than being softened by reduction, this whisky is presented at full cask strength, allowing the richness of the sherry maturation and the underlying Aberfeldy character to come through with plenty of weight and texture.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Rich honey and sweet malt open the glass, followed by raisins, dried fruits and orange peel. Dark chocolate, toasted nuts and gentle oak add depth, with a warming sweetness underneath.

Palate: Full-bodied and powerful, with layers of raisin, fig and dark chocolate alongside honeyed malt, caramel and toasted almonds. Warming cinnamon and gentle oak spice build as the whisky develops, balanced by the naturally sweet character of Aberfeldy.

Finish: Long, warming and richly textured. Dried fruit, cocoa, honey and nutty sweetness linger alongside a gentle Oloroso-derived oak spice.

This is a particularly interesting bottling for those who enjoy cask-strength Scotch whisky and the influence of first-fill sherry casks. The combination of Aberfeldy's honeyed Highland spirit, full-strength presentation and rich Oloroso maturation makes for a whisky with plenty of depth and intensity, while the single-cask nature and limited outturn of just 649 bottles add to its appeal for collectors and enthusiasts.
