Château Dubard Bel-Air, Puisseguin Saint-Émilion
Château Dubard Bel-Air, Puisseguin Saint-Émilion
France – 2020
14.5% ABV
Tasting Note: A charming wine, full of ripe plum and blueberry fruit, supported by toasty oak. Ample-textured, with juicy fruit balanced by firm tannins and great structure. Vineyards to the north of Saint Émilion are situated on a calcareous plateau that overlooks the Dordogne valley. The soils of Puisseguin Saint Émilion can be distinguished by their especially high lime content. The 8.34 hectare Bel-Air vineyard is owned by the Dubard family of Bergerac. The 'satellite' areas of Lussac and Puisseguin produce wines that are virtually impossible to tell apart from Saint Émilion proper and are frequently of exceptional value for money.
Food Matching: Rib-eye grilled steaks, roasted meat, cheddar cheese, and other mature cheeses.
Vineyard: The soils of Puisseguin St Emilion can be distinguished by their higher content of calcary. The 8.34 ha of Bel-Air, remarkably gathered around the estate buildings, marvelously shows how such a calcareous-clayish terroir produces deep and full-bodied wines.
Vinification: Sorting of grapes before picking, Alcoholic fermentation, and maceration (3 to 4 weeks in total) in temperature-controlled stainless vats. 12 to 18 months aging in French oak barrels (30 % new oak).
