Orkney 2001 24 Year Old – Little Brown Dog Spirits

A superbly mature 24 Year Old Orkney Single Malt Scotch Whisky from Little Brown Dog Spirits, bottled at 53.1% ABV.

The distillery cannot officially be named, although Little Brown Dog makes it quite clear in its release notes that it is not Scapa.

Distilled on 30th August 2001, this release is a vatting of two sister refill hogsheads, yielding a total of 428 bottles.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Salted caramel, apple skins and petrichor.

Palate: Raspberry ripple ice cream, Mother's Pride plain loaf and grilled red peppers.

Finish: Smoked almonds and quince jelly.

Beautifully Mature Orkney Whisky

Long maturation in refill wood has given the spirit plenty of time to develop without becoming dominated by oak.

There's a faint thread of peat here, presenting itself as distant smoke alongside coastal salinity, mature fruit and impressive depth.

At 24 years old, this is an excellent example of the complexity that patient maturation in refill wood can produce.
