A beautifully mature example of North British single grain whisky, independently bottled by Signatory Vintage as part of their renowned Un-Chillfiltered Collection. Distilled in 2008 and bottled in 2026 after 18 years of maturation, this Lowland single grain has been matured in a combination of first-fill Sherry Hogsheads and refill Bourbon casks, before being bottled at 46% ABV.

North British is one of Scotland's major grain distilleries, producing the lighter and often highly versatile spirit that forms the backbone of many Scotch whiskies. Given extended maturation and careful cask selection, however, grain whisky can develop remarkable depth of its own. This bottling is a great example, combining the creamy sweetness of mature grain spirit with the influence of both Sherry and Bourbon oak.

As part of Signatory Vintage's Un-Chillfiltered Collection, the whisky is presented in its natural colour and without chill filtration, retaining more of the character and texture developed during its years in oak.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Soft and inviting, with creamy vanilla, toffee and sweet malt leading into ripe pear and delicate orchard fruit. Subtle Sherry notes sit underneath, with hints of dried fruit and gentle spice developing in the glass.

Palate: Smooth and rounded, bringing together vanilla custard, caramel and ripe pear with lightly candied apple. The Sherry casks add notes of sultana and dried fruit, while gentle oak spice and a touch of light chocolate provide extra depth.

Finish: Medium to long, with lingering vanilla, sweet oak and gentle spice alongside a touch of dried fruit and chocolate. Soft, warming and pleasantly sweet.

At 18 years old, this is an excellent introduction to the more expressive side of single grain Scotch whisky. The combination of mature North British spirit, Sherry and Bourbon maturation gives the whisky plenty of character without becoming overly heavy, making it an interesting bottle both for dedicated grain whisky enthusiasts and for anyone looking to explore something beyond traditional single malt.
