Old School Single Malt 51 Year Old Coastal Edition Batch #5 – Signatory Vintage

Discover an extraordinary piece of Scotch whisky history with the Old School Single Malt 51 Year Old Coastal Edition Batch #5, a remarkable half-century-old single malt independently bottled by Signatory Vintage.

Matured for an incredible 51 years in a second-fill Oloroso sherry butt, this exceptional whisky brings together the richness of sherry cask maturation with the distinctive maritime character of a coastal Scotch single malt.

Bottled in 2026 at a natural cask strength of 44% ABV, without chill filtration or artificial colouring, this is a beautifully mature whisky for enthusiasts and collectors seeking something genuinely special.

Old School 51 Year Old Coastal Edition – Tasting Notes

Five decades of maturation have created a wonderfully layered whisky, combining rich dried fruits, seasoned oak and subtle coastal influences.

• Nose: Dried figs, raisins and orange peel, accompanied by rich cocoa, polished leather and toasted oak. A gentle maritime salinity and delicate smoke add complexity.
• Palate: Rich dark fruits and warming spice, with dark chocolate, nutmeg, clove and beautifully integrated oak. Subtle coastal saltiness balances the sherry sweetness.
• Finish: Long, graceful and savoury, with lingering dried fruits, mature oak, gentle smoke and a refreshing coastal character.

51 Years of Maturation in Oloroso Sherry Oak

The exceptional age of this whisky is central to its appeal. Having spent 51 years maturing in a second-fill Oloroso sherry butt, the spirit has developed remarkable complexity and balance.

Unlike a first-fill sherry cask, a second-fill butt can provide a more restrained oak influence, allowing the original distillery character to remain prominent even after extended maturation.

The result is a beautifully integrated combination of mature oak, dark fruits, gentle spice and coastal freshness.

A Mystery Coastal Single Malt Scotch Whisky

One of the most intriguing aspects of the Old School Coastal Edition is the identity of its originating distillery.

Signatory Vintage has chosen not to disclose the distillery, allowing the whisky's exceptional age, maturation and distinctive flavour profile to speak for themselves.

With its maritime character, gentle smoke and beautifully integrated sherry influence, this 51-year-old release offers an exciting opportunity to experience a rare and mature coastal Scotch whisky.
